Toomey Residential and Community Services is committed to assisting individuals to reach their highest level of capability and to increase their opportunities for success through our community based services and programs. 


Community Habilitation Program Advocates are instrumental in supporting people with developmental disabilities in their goals and services.  Com Hab Program Advocates will work one-on-one, using a person centered approach to provide the highest quality services based on each person’s strengths and needs.  Com Hab Program Advocates work with people to achieve their greatest potential in each of their chosen goals. 


Part Time & Full Time, Monday-Friday Day/ Evening and Weekend hours available.

Program Advocates serve as positive role models in the community as well as provide support and assistance in households if needed.  Some current examples of chosen services include; improving independent living skills, maintaining a home, assistance with medical appointments, being involved in community, as well as pursuing volunteer and recreational opportunities. 



A clean valid NYS drivers’ license. Program Advocates must use their own vehicle for work purposes.  High School Diploma or GED required; Associates in Human Services preferred. Experience working with individuals with disabilities or in other human service area or in a health care field most helpful. Will be required to successfully complete the OPWDD fingerprinting clearance; have good verbal & written skills; and ability to attend training.


Clearances: All positions at Toomey Residential and Community Services are required to attend Virtus training within 60 days of hire and to successfully clear the Virtus background check. This position also requires an acceptable State child abuse clearance background check.
