IRAs (Individual Residential Alternatives) provide a home environment, which encourages independence while supporting inclusion of individuals into the community; ICFs (Intermediate Care Facility) provide a home environment, which encourages independence while supporting inclusion of individuals into the community.

Program Advocates provide support and assistance to adolescents and adults with disabilities in areas of daily living, community involvement, and recreational activities. Serve as a positive role model for socially acceptable behavior. Assist with household duties and meal preparation. Some positions require staff to pass medications.
This is a live-in, 40 hr/week position, 9 AM Saturday to 4 PM Monday. Staff work until 11 PM, then sleep in the bedroom provided between 11 and 7 AM. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday you have off!
A clean valid NYS drivers’ license. Some positions require staff to use their own vehicle for work purposes. High School Diploma or GED required; Associates in Human Services preferred. Experience working with individuals with disabilities or in other human service area or in a health care field most helpful. Will be required to successfully complete the OPWDD fingerprinting clearance; have good verbal & written skills; ability to attend training and pass the test to become med. certified, if required.
All positions at Toomey Residential and Community Services are required to attend Virtus training within 60 days of hire and to successfully clear the Virtus background check. This position also requires an acceptable State child abuse clearance background check. EOE
