Basic Function/Purpose: The Interpreter will provide interpretation for RSSP staff and outside services; including interpeting at medical appointments, job interviews and other services.


Essential Functions/Responsibilities: 

  1. Interpret for internal staff and external support services as assigned; Languages needed include;  Tigrinya, Somali, Dari and Pashto. Must be fluent in one of these languages and English. 
  2. Maintain case notes documenting interpretation services.
  3. Assist employment specialists and case managers with activities and services that facilitate client self-sufficiency.
  4. Report areas of concern to case managers, employment specialists, and the RSSP Program Manager as necessary for the well-being of the client.
  5. Maintain client confidentiality, disclosing information only to appropriate program staff.
  6. Regularly attend agency staff meetings.
  7. Maintain guidelines established by the funding sources and Catholic Charities policies and procedures

Interpreter, on-call basis, hours scheduled as needed for Clients. Less than 20 hours weekly. 


Education and/or Experience Required at Entry: Fluent in Tigrinya, Somali, Dari or Pashto and English. Minimum of three (3) years of experience working with culturally diverse families or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. 


Licenses/Certificate/Clearances: Valid NYS Drivers License, registered and insured vehicle, NYS Child Abuse Registry clearance. 


Skills/Abilities: Excellent oral and written connumication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Word. 


Working Conditions and Environment/Physical Demands: Mobility sufficient to drive to and participate in meetins at client's homes and/or community facilities which may not meet Federal accessibility standards for disabled individuals. Manual dexterity sufficient to work with children/adults in a challenging and active environment.
