Program Director

Seeking an experienced professional to direct and coordinate Catholic Charities of Onondaga County Shelter program and Shelter staff to support individuals in the community struggling with homelessness.


This is a Full time, Monday through Friday position, 35 hours per week, with the expectation of on-call support. 




Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that assigned programs are operating as designed and achieving stated outcomes across all sites. This includes assessing the adequacy of staffing and resources, and insuring the safety and security of clients and staff.
  • Maintain and update the client record database for timely completion of program statistics and reports.
  • Maintain a clean and safe facility. Report all hazards to appropriate authorities and or agency administration. 
  • Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate program staff. Ensure best practices are followed, and staff performance issues are addressed in conjunction with HR and Program Officer. Ensure staff receives weekly supervision and a supervisory process that provides employees with performance feedback, which culminates into an annual performance evaluation.
  • Serve as advocate and resource for staff and program participants.
  • Establish short and long term program objectives. Ensure that program goals are met by frequently assessing compliance with funding source and CC policies and procedures include documentation, reporting, and auditing. 
  • Monitor expenses and use of program assets.  Make budget recommendations.
  • Act as a liaison to all governmental agencies and interface at local, state and national level.
  • Interpret and uphold policies and procedures of Catholic Charities, the funding source, and the program.


Program Director will be culturally competent with a passion for serving the community and transforming lives. Must be able to effectively communicate with and provide services to individuals struggling with trauma, mental illness, alcohol and substance abuse and assist in overcoming a variety of barriers to housing.


Bachelor’s Degree with three (8) years relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience working with homeless or housing vulnerable. Supervisory and Administrative experience.


Working Conditions and Environment/Physical Demands:   Mobility sufficient to drive to and participate in meetings at client’s homes and/or community facilities which may not meet Federal accessibility standards for disabled individuals, Manual dexterity sufficient to work with children/adults in a challenging and active environment.
