The Youth Instructor will work collaboratively with Refugee Resettlement Service Program staff to provide career awareness activities and workshops to youth. Recruit program participants for participation in Regents Prep and SAT preparation classes; most students will be from refugee backgrounds. The Youth Instructor will also instruct a weekly class in career awareness; introducing teens to diverse careers and the educational background required for each; Arrange guest speakers and field trips as appropriate. In addition the Youth Instructor will instruct a weekly worshop in regents preparation activities, determine subjects and tests that students need to prepare for and utilize standardized preparation materials as well as creative approaches to increase passing rates for refugee students and maintain accurate statistical records of program participation, including attendance and evaluation tools.
Associates degree or equivalent with up to three years relevant experience is required. Experience working with teens and individuals from diverse ethnic groups preferred.
Excellent written and oral communication skills, the ability to work with a variety of ethnic groups, comfortable speaking in front of groups, creative problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
