The Refugee Summer Academy provides an educational experience that will prepare refugee students for school in the United States, while providing the students with a fun, encouraging, ample, and overall positive, safe experience. The Refugee Summer Academy at the Northside CYO will run July 2, 2019 through August 16, 2019. We are currently looking for energetic and self-motivated individuals to serve as Youth Leaders and Assistants.
Youth Leaders will be responsible for providing an educational experience that will prepare refugee students for school in the United States, while at the same time leading activities that will provide the students with a fun, encouraging, ample, and overall positive, safe experience. Youth Leaders will create lesson plans aimed at preparing the students, aged 4 to 19, for school in an American setting in the fall; teach previously selected topics with the assistance of prepared syllabi. Additionally, Youth Leaders will be responsible for classroom cleaning and up-keep.
Assistants will aid leaders with teaching, programming, and classroom maintenance.
This is a Full Time, summer only position.
At least one year college attendance with experience working with children in a classroom setting and/or leading group activities. Ideal candidates must be flexible, patient, team-orientated and energetic. Understanding of diverse cultures strongly desired. N.Y.S. Child Abuse Registry clearance.
