    Responsibilities

    This is a part time position with a payrate of $20 per hour and the flexibility to work afternoons, evenings and weekends!

     

    Skill Builders work closely with families and youth to restore, rehabilitate and support a child’s developmentally appropriate functioning.

    • Work one-to-one or in small groups with children/youth 5- 21 years of age with emotional/behavioral challenges and/or a mental health diagnosis.
    • In conjunction with the youth, family, and program staff, skill-building mentors design and provide activities that incorporate skills needed to live successfully in their homes and communities. 
    • Instruct in skills specific to each child, including but not limited to social and interpersonal skills, daily living skills, and community integration. 
    • Assist in cresting lasting community connections of interest that are accessible to the child and family.
    • Responsible for completing progress notes, assessments and treatment plans in accordance with agency and funding established time frames. 

    Report progress regularly to the program coordinator and participate in regular case review and clinical supervision

    Qualifications

    Skills/Abilities: Ability and engagement skills needed to address serious behaviors in children/adolescents; and to demonstrate and adhere to Agency’s Core Behaviors listed below:

    • Cultural Competence: Establishes positive relationships; Treats clients, families, co-workers, and others with respect, dignity, and compassion; embrace the diversity of others.
    • Communication:   Expresses thoughts clearly, listens actively, and seeks clarification when necessary. Responds to communications in a timely fashion.
    • Quality of Services/Work and Accountability: Demonstrates competence and a commitment to producing an accurate, timely and thorough work product; Takes responsibility for work actions, and adheres to Agency and Diocesan policies and procedures.
    • Judgment and Ethics:  Actions and behaviors model Agency values of privacy, dignity, confidentiality, honesty, quality and excellence, demonstrate an understanding of ethical and compliance standards, and reflect the best interest of those served.
    • Adaptability: Quickly adjusts to new demands, people and environments and copes well with unexpected challenging situations; Changes priorities to respond to changing goals; Demonstrates composure under stress and manages competing deadlines.
    • Initiative: Initiates role-appropriate actions without a lot of guidance; A self-starter who is consistently productive without being told and/or reminded what to do.

    Licenses/Certificate/Clearances: Valid N.Y.S. Driver’s License and ability to meet insurance standards; Registered and insured vehicle, N.Y.S. Child Abuse Registry, DCJS Criminal History, Sex Offender Registry, Justice Center SEL clearance required..
