The Neighborhood Advisor will provide information and assistance to needed services for adults age 60 and older.

  • Establish and maintain appropriate and culturally competent connections with members of the community, both clients and service organizations.
  • Serve as a conduit to the myriad of existing agencies that provide entitlement benefits and social services, which will enable older people to remain in their homes and participate in family and community life.
  • Link clients to existing entitlement programs through assisting with document/form completion at a minimum and follow through to ensure client has recieved the necessary service. Home visits may be required.
  • Maintain records and data in accordance with the Department of Adult and Long Term Care Services in Onondaga County.
  • Develop and maintain a resource director of key contacts in the community which will serve as a referral source for area residents.
  • Conduct outreach to community residents through door-to-door outreach, referrals from key contacts, and through community presentations.
  • Coordinate transportation services as needed for elderly clients.


Education and/or Experience Required at Entry: Associates degree in Human Services field with one year of experience working with the elderly and/or senior citizens or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience required. Strong knowledge base of community resources and entitlements benefits for adults 60 years of age and older.


Skills/Abilities: Demonstrate an understanding and sensitivity to the needs of the older person and respect an individual’s right to self-determination and autonomy. Outstanding communication skills, both oral and written. Experience with group presentations.


Licenses/Certificate/Clearances: Valid N.Y.S. Drivers License, N.Y.S. Registered and insured vehicle.


Working Conditions and Environment/Physical Demands: Mobility sufficient to drive to and participate in meetings at client’s homes and/or community facilities which may not meet Federal accessibility standards for disabled individuals.


Required Trainings: VIRTUS, Corporate Compliance, Confidentiality/HIPAA, Defensive Driving
