* This position will be located primarily in Fulton. Travel to Syracuse may be required for no more than 2 days/week.

The Senior Accountant will perform general ledger tasks and financial reporting functions for Catholic Charities of Onondaga County and/or other agencies that we serve.

Responsibilities:

• Assist in the preparation of the annual operating budget.
• Assist in the preparation and presentation of financial information for funders.
• Maintain work papers and supporting financial records for all financial activities.
• Provide information for the annual financial statement audit and tax filings.
• Prepare internal and external fiscal reporting on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis (including but not limited to monthly reporting to governance).
• Prepare billings/claims for funding sources and ensure collectability of accounts receivable.
• Prepare monthly reconciliations for balance sheet accounts, including cash.
• Prepare annual Consolidated Fiscal Report.
• Recommend fiscal policies and procedures.
• Review payroll.
• Prepare NYS Sales Tax Return.
• Effectively communicate (both verbally and via email) with third parties.
• Serve as backup for various accounting functions.
• Maintain guidelines established by the funding sources and Catholic Charities policies and procedures.
• Supervise/mentor an Accounting Specialist.

Education and/or Experience Required at Entry: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience required or a combination of education and experience. Relevant experience includes working in the field of financial reporting in a for-profit, not-for-profit, or government environment.

Skills/Abilities: Critical thinking skills. Able and willing to multi-task and embrace change. Self-motivated with effective time management and project management skills. Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, Office, SharePoint, Teams). Knowledge of QuickBooks is preferred. Effective oral and written communication skills.

Licenses/Certificate/Clearances: Valid N.Y.S. Drivers License.

Working Conditions and Environment/Physical Demands: Mobility sufficient to work in an office environment. Manual dexterity sufficient to operate office equipment including adding machines.

Required Trainings: VIRTUS, Corporate Compliance, and Confidentiality/HIPAA.
