Responsibilities

The Employment Services Specialist will collaborate with active supportive housing clients to develop individualized employment goals, and assist clients in obtaining and maintaining employment that is consistent with their individualized employment goals.  Engages clients and establishes trusting, collaborative relationships directed toward the goal of competitive employment in community job settings. Conduct assessments of job readiness of referred Supportive Housing Clients. Assist client in job readiness, obtaining and maintaining employment by providing direct care that includes job coaching, interview preparation, assessment, intervention and advocacy. Conduct on-going assessments of clients’ vocational functions by utilizing current and past work experiences. Conduct Job development and job search activities that are directed towards positions that are individualized to clients’ interests and abilities. Provide education and support to the employees and employers, which can include advocacy and negotiating job accommodations. Refer clients to community resources and other organizations. Network with community service providers. Complete all necessary reporting forms for government agencies and funding sources (UCR’s, progress notes, referrals, and statistics). Maintain client referral logs and files. Maintain appropriate communication with supervisors and other funding sources. Notify of any safety issues in a timely manner. Maintain guidelines established by the funding sources and Catholic Charities policies and procedures.  Perform all other duties related to housing individuals and helping them remain housed, including but not limited to furnishing and supplying apartments.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience Required at Entry:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services or related
  • three years relevant experience working with individuals with substance abuse/ mental health concerns.
  • Employment services experience preferred,
  • candidates with lived experience are also preferred, and encouraged to apply.


Licenses/Certificate/Clearances:

  • Valid N.Y.S. Drivers License,
  • N.Y.S. Child Abuse Registry clearance.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Basic computer skills.
  • Creative problem solving.
  • Negotiation skills.

Working Conditions and Environment/Physical Demands: 

  •  Mobility sufficient to drive to and participate in meetings at client’s homes and/or community facilities which may not meet Federal accessibility standards for disabled individuals
