Toomey Residential is currently seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) to provide support to our programs and residential facilities.
The Registered Nurse will provide staff and individuals with relevant health information and education commensurate with their needs. Provides training for all new support staff on consumer specific medical needs. Maintenance and timely completion of the proper documentation and record keeping as required by the program, the agency and the various state/federal regulatory agencies. Provide oversight of medication related activities of staff and clients and Clinical certification for employees to administer medication. Serve as liaison and advocate between residents and the various community health providers and educational settings serving their needs. Reviews lab work, clarifies medications, and coordinates medical appointments. Makes referrals for needed medical services and ensure that follow-up care is pursued. Provides special instructions to resident and home staff related to medical diagnosis, allergies, diet, etc., and is available for ongoing consultation to staff regarding medical problems and healthcare. Participates in the admission of new residents to assigned homes. Conduct assessment and triage activities, intake assessments, treatment plan development, and other general nursing activities. Develops plans to guarantee that the medical and healthcare needs of the residents are met and ensures the appropriate medical follow up. Monitor medical supplies, medication and equipment, either directly or indirectly, to insure appropriate response to health care needs.
This position is Monday-Friday 8:30am-4:30pm with some flexibility to meet program needs. NO On-Call!
An Associates or Bachelors degree, Current NYS Registered Nurse certification, with one (1) to three (3) years of experience is required. Experience working with children, youth and families with mental health, developmental health, or substance abuse concerns is preferred. NY Registered Nurse certification/license, a valid NYS driver’s license, criminal background check, and NYS Central Registry Child Abuse Clearance.
The ideal candidate will have crisis management skills and consistent demonstration of ability to respond to changed situations in a flexible manner in order to meet current needs, as well as the ability to effectively and professionally communicate with program participants, family, direct care staff, other agencies, and members of the community. Interpersonal/communication skills, customer service, creative problem solving, confidentiality, mandated reporter, and the ability to lift at least 50lbs.
