Responsibilities

The Accounting Specialist will perform various accounting activities, including but not limited to: data entry, reviewing payables for accuracy, issuing A/R invoices, preparing daily bank deposits (cash, checks, e-deposits), and preparing bank reconciliations. Assist internal “customers” (i.e., other department personnel) with various requests. Clerical tasks, including but not limited to: sorting mail, making copies, scanning documents, filing electronic and/or hard-copy documents. Contribute to the department’s commitment to continuous improvement, such initiatives include but are not limited to (i) implementing a new agency credit card platform and (ii) increased digitization of workflows. Assist with projects and audits, as assigned. Serve as backup for accounting tasks, as needed.

 

This position pays $22 per hour. 35 hours a week, 100% on-site.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience Required at Entry:

  • Preferred Associate's Degree in Accounting or a related field.
  • Minimum requirement of a High School Diploma/GED with a minimum of 3 years relevant experience.
  • Relevant experience includes accounting functions in for-profit, not-for-profit, and/or governmental environments.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Licenses/Certificate/Clearances:

  • Valid N.Y.S. Driver's License.
  • N.Y.S. Central Registry Clearance.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Demonstrated proficiency in MS Excel and MS Word.
  • Ability to operate office equipment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • High attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.

Working Conditions and Environment/Physical Demands:

  • Mobility sufficient to work in an office environment.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate office equipment, including adding machines.
