Responsibilities

The Summer Youth Leader is responsible for providing an educational experience that prepares refugee students, aged 4 to 19, for school in the United States. They create and implement lesson plans, teaching selected topics with the help of prepared syllabi. Their goal is to equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills for success in an American school setting. Additionally, Youth Leaders lead engaging activities that promote a fun, encouraging, and safe environment. They are also responsible for maintaining classroom cleanliness and organization. Assistants support the Youth Leaders in teaching, programming, and classroom maintenance, ensuring a smooth implementation of activities and providing individual or group support to students. Together, Youth Leaders and Assistants contribute to a positive and enriching educational experience for refugee students.

 

Pay For This Position is $18.00. This Position is Full Time From July 14th, 2025 to August 22nd 2025, 35 Hours a Week.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience Required at Entry:

  • At least one year of college attendance.
  • Experience working with children in a classroom setting and/or leading group activities.
  • Ideal candidates should possess qualities such as flexibility, patience, teamwork, and high energy.
  • Strong understanding of diverse cultures is strongly desired.

Licenses/Certificate/Clearances:

  • Valid N.Y.S. Child Abuse Registry clearance.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Customer service skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.

Working Conditions and Environment/Physical Demands:

  • Mobility sufficient to drive to and participate in meetings at client's homes and/or community facilities that may not meet Federal accessibility standards for disabled individuals.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to work with children/adults in a challenging and active environment.
