As a Peer Navigator, the primary responsibility is to maintain regular office hours at assigned non-profit partner locations and provide assistance to refugees on a drop-in basis. In addition to this, the role involves conducting home visits for referred refugees to assess their wellbeing and successful integration into the community. During these visits or office hours, utilizing a standardized assessment tool, document the refugees' wellbeing and any concerns observed. Report identified concerns to the Program Manager and Case Managers as appropriate. The position also entails performing basic health care checks, such as blood pressure checks, and reporting results to the supervisor. Furthermore, link refugees to suitable health and mental health services with the assistance of the Refugee Health Coordinator at Northside CYO. Act as a supportive peer advocate for refugees, addressing their individual needs, and accompany them to health and mental health appointments when necessary. Attend monthly trainings with other Peer Navigators and provide interpretation support for health and mental health services as required.
Starting Pay for this position is: $22.00/hour
Education and/or Experience Required at Entry: Associates Degree in Human Services field preferred. HS
Diploma with one (1) year relevant experience. Experience working with youth/teens while having the ability to
engage with diverse families and respectful of cultural differences.
Licenses/Certificate/Clearances: N.Y.S. Child Abuse Registry Clearance
Skills and Abilities: Ability to write clear notes in English. Fluency in English and at least one of the following
languages: Farsi, Dari, Arabic, Karen, Burmese, Tigrinya and Swahili.
Working Conditions and Environment/Physical Demands: Mobility sufficient to drive to and participate in
meetings at client’s homes and/or community facilities which may not meet Federal accessibility standards for
disabled individuals, Manual dexterity sufficient to work with children/adults in a challenging and active
environment.
