Responsibilities

To serve as a medical resource to those associated primarily with Toomey Residential and Community Services under the supervision of the Manager of Medical Services and the primary medical provider. 

  1. Under the supervision of the Manager of Medical Services and RN’s, if appropriate, coordinate comprehensive medical services to promote the well being of the individuals in the care of the programs.
  2. Provide staff, foster parents and individuals with relevant health information and education commensurate with their needs. 
  3. Maintenance and timely completion of the proper documentation and record keeping as required by the program, the agency and the various state/federal regulatory agencies.
  4. Provide oversight of medication related activities of staff and clients and clinical certification for employees to administer medication.  Counsel staff on medication errors and document.
  5. Serve as a liaison and advocate between residents and the various community health providers and educational settings serving their needs. 
  6. Attend and participate in Treatment and Planning meetings, case conferences and programmatic reviews as appropriate.
  7. Provide on-call consultation, emergency medical assessment and attendance as appropriate in a medical emergency commensurate with education and licensure. 
  8. Monitor medical supplies, medication and equipment, either directly or indirectly, to insure appropriate response to health care needs.
  9. Maintain guidelines and policies as established by the funding sources and Toomey Residential and Community Services. 
  10. Represent the agency in a positive and professional manner.

This position is Monday-Friday 8:30am-4:30pm with some flexibility to meet program needs. NO On-Call!

Qualifications

NYS LPN licensure required. Associates degree preferred. Experience in community health, mental health or developmental disabilities nursing preferred.  Valid NYS Drivers License and an available vehicle for work use.  NYS Child Abuse Registry and criminal background check clearance is required.   

 

Skills/Abilities: Basic computer skills, CPR certification, excellent verbal and written communication skills are needed to work with a wide variety of people both within the agency and in the community.
